Letter Re:SODEXHO(Mandarin/English/Korean) PDF
2008 June 17
Dear XIS School Community:
I am sorry to report to you that SODEXHO (the food service
provider with whom we have been working) and XIS have reached
an impasse in contract negotiations. As a large international
corporation, SODEXHO’s model of operations appears to be very
standardized in its approach to contracts. While this may
be beneficial for them as a large corporation, it, unfortunately,
leaves little to no room for a small organization to negotiate.
It is very much to this school’s benefit to look for creative
solutions at any time, but most especially when an impasse
is reached. Sadly, we could not seem to negotiate creative
solutions with SODEXHO, no matter how hard we tried. In the
best interests of the entire XIS school community, I could
not in good conscience acquiesce to the final terms. We will,
therefore, not be in partnership with them for SY 2008-2009.
Both parties have, however, left the door open in the future
should there be room for movement.
Therefore, we have returned for talks with Masako Curry House
to negotiate different meals, more variety, longer time periods
before repetition and an entirely new set-up. We will also
begin talks with our Upper School Student Council for the
best ways to sell drinks and healthy snacks at nominal costs
during the school day.
Please note that for Masako Curry House to bring in different
meals, more variety, a longer period before repetition, a
new set-up, they will incur higher product, labor and management
costs. They will, therefore, need to adjust the lunch meal
to 20 RMB for everyone. This is significantly lower than what
SODEXHO had planned to establish. As during this year, it
is necessary that students pay at least one week in advance
on each Wednesday. Next year, it will be extremely important
that students avoid late payments. Students and parents will
be contacted should this occur.
Menus will be on the XIS website and will also be emailed
to parents who provide us with updated email addresses.
Although, I am disappointed that I could not establish a
partnership with SODEXHO after almost 1 ½ years of working
with them, I will continue to leave that door open, not only
for them, but for any others who may wish to establish a cafeteria
partnership with XIS that would represent a win-win relationship
for everyone.
Sincerely,
John M. Godwin, Headmaster
John M. Godwin/校长
